Symptoms of Underactive Thyroid - How to Detect Early
<p>In a condition when a person's thyroid gland fails to produce enough hormone for the body, the person is said to be suffering from underactive thyroid production or hypothyroidism. Thyroid hormones T3 and T4 help control the function of almost all our body tissues, and so abnormally high or low thyroid hormone levels can be manifested by a wide variety of signs and symptoms.</p><p><strong>Symptoms of Underactive Thyroid :</strong></p><p>Hypothyroidism is a common thyroid disease that affects a section of the population in the US. It also produces a definite set of symptoms. The symptoms of hypothyroidism result from a decrease in production levels of thyroid hormones. Usually, the thyroid itself is the source of this problem, however, the pituitary gland located at the base of the brain, which regulates the thyroid gland, may also be a contributor to an underactive thyroid. Symptoms of an underactive thyroid may include the following:</p><p>Constipation,depression,sluggishness and fatigue,greater sensitivity to cold,dry hair and skin,menstrual irregularities (in women) and unexplained weight gain. In severe cases, a patient can experience; muscle pain,elevated cholesterol levels, brittle nails, poor memory concentration, low libido,depression, anxiety, and many more. Depending on the gravity of the condition, almost all body systems will slow down as a result of low metabolic rate of all the cells in the body.</p><p><strong>Common Causes of Hypothyroidism:</strong></p><p><strong>a)</strong> Shortage of iodine in diet can trigger some thyroid problems.It should be noted that over consumption of iodine can also contribute to thyroid problems.</p><p><strong>b)</strong> Excessive exposure to radiation treatment to the head, neck or chest and treatment for lymph nodes,tonsils, adenoids, thymus gland problems can cause hypothyroidism.</p><p><strong>c)</strong> Research shows that some drugs, such as lithium and the heart drug cordarone, can cause underactive thyroid.</p><p><strong>d) </strong>Too much consumption of isoflavone-intensive soy products, like soy protein, powders and capsules.</p><p><strong>e)</strong> Contact with radiation can cause thyroid disease.</p><p>Finally, if you are living with certain thyroid problems, you know the challenges they can bring. Desiccated bovine capsule supplements are good product for restoring some of my energy. I didn't experience weight loss which is fine. Didn't feel dizzy like I did without it.
